Biography of Paul F. Sweatt

PicturePaul F. Sweatt, Master Level Personal Trainer

I wasn’t always into health and fitness, I was a very overweight and out of shape child. Then one day a close family member commented on this and boy did the truth hurt. Realizing they were right I decided to do something about it. I lost 70 lbs and increased my fitness level exponentially. It took about a year and a half with a lot of speed bumps along the way.  I found out the hard way that a lot of health information out there is taken out of context or is just plain wrong. Doing what I thought was right (and having a young man’s ego) caused a lot of injuries and set backs with the worst being 18 months of chronic back pain.

Fast forward two years to sophomore year of college, as an engineering major, at Umass, Amherst. I take a biological science course, Exercise and Nutrition, taught by Dr. Pricilla Clarkson. She is an amazing teacher and world renown. Dr. Clarkson inspires me to change my major to Exercise Science and I decide that my goal in life will be to help others who want to improve their health and fitness avoid all the set backs and bad info that I succumbed to. So, I start working at the Body Shop, Umass, Amherst’s membership only, student controlled gym as a personal trainer.

Today I have been working as a personal trainer, in some respect, since 1999. Currently, and since 2001, I work full time as a personal trainer at the Boston Sports Club (BSC) in Wellesley, MA. I rose quickly through the ranks at BSC, even completing a brief stint as Fitness Manager on Duty, to achieve their highest rank of personal trainer, master trainer. At BSC I have helped many people achieve their health, fitness and body transformation goals.

My greatest accomplishment during my time at BSC is creating a strong following. When people train with me they soon come to realize that I truly want to help them reach their goals as quickly and safely as possible. So time and time again they come back to me to help them get there.

I have a Bachelor’s in Exercise Science from Umass, Amherst and I am an American Council on Exercise Certified Personal Trainer. Other courses I have completed are NCSF's Maternal Fitness, NASM's Corrective Exercise, Physical Therapy Solutions' The Shoulder Complex and The Knee Complex  and Kettlebell Concepts' Level 1 instructor.
