Are YOU Your Own Worst Weight Loss Enemy
Raise you hand if you ever tried one of these diets or diet products. Yes, I know. Just humor me and raise it.
The Celery Diet
The Grapefruit Diet
The Master Cleanse
The Cabbage Soup (a.k.a the anti-friend) Diet
The 48 Hour Hollywood Drink This Nasty Juice Diet
The Take Alli and Hope I don’t Crap Myself Diet
The Starve Yourself to Lose Weight and Hope Your Metabolism Doesn’t Crash Diet
The Do Tons of Low Intensity Cardio But Still Eat Crap Diet.
You can’t out train a bad diet.
WOW. A lot of hands went up for those last two.
OK. Hands down.
Have you ever read a weight loss article (in a trustworthy magazine) or had a professional (i.e. personal trainer or registered dietitian) tell you the straight weight loss poop? By this I mean they told you exactly what was necessary to lose weight and keep it off. Permanently.
If so, raise your hand if you said or thought any of these statements.
- I can’t give up bagels.
- I can’t eat breakfast.
- I can’t cut down on eating out.
- I don’t have the time to prepare my own food
- I can’t eat healthy, it’s too expensive.
- I can’t give up alcohol.
- I don’t have time to sleep 8 hours a night.
- I can’t eat 5-9 serving of fruits and vegetables a day.
- I can’t do intervals, they’re too hard
- I don’t have time to exercise.
- I can’t cut down on my TV watching.
- I can’t give up jelly beans.
- I can’t eat bell peppers, they’re disgusting.
- I can’t lose weight, I have a thyroid problem.
- I can’t do THAT.
A lot more hands. Especially for that last one. I’m kind of curious what your can’t is.
Let me go out on a limb here. I am more than certain that you have either unsuccessfully tried to lose weight (and have actually gained weight instead). Or you have lost weight (fast) only to gain it back and more.
I’m right, aren’t I.
If you raised your hand at least twice and answered yes to one of the above statements, I have some hard news for you.
YOU ARE THE REASON WHY YOU ARE NOT LOSING (AND/OR GAINING) WEIGHT!
But I have a legitimate medical reason why I am fat. No you have an excuse you use as to why you are not a reasonable weight.
Too many people saying I can’t too much was made even more apparent to me when I recently watched the documentary “Supersize Me”.
A good dealer never uses is own product. Fail!
If you have never seen the movie, you should, it’s a real eye opener. One of the things that I noticed about people in the film is that they didn’t take responsibility for the fact that they were fat and unwilling to do what was necessary to lose weight. I will give you two examples.
The film opens up with two girls that are suing McDonald’s for the fact that they were obese.
Later in the movie the director goes to see Jared (yes, that Jared) give a motivational speech on how to lose weight. After the speech the director talks to this very obese 14 year old girl who “wants” to lose weight. The whole time the director is talking to her she says how she “can’t” do any of the things that Jared mentions.
These girls were just looking for someone else to blame for the fact that they don’t want to do what is necessary to lose weight. They can do what is necessary to lose weight, they just won’t
All three girls are probably still highly obese. And more so than when the movie came out
Can’t is a choice you make.
You can do anything you want to. Just as long as it is legal and physically possible.
If someone tells you how to lose weight and you say you can’t, all you are saying is that other things are more important to you then the weight loss. In other words, getting the body you want isn’t a high enough priority yet.
If you really want to lose weight and get the body of your dreams (and I mean really want) you will do what you have to to lose the weight and keep if off.
You will stop watching TV and get to bed.
You will stop eating fast food and cut down on eating out.
You will find the time to cook healthy meals and workout.
You will eat more vegetables. Even the ones you may not like, yet.
You will do intervals and push yourself hard when you work.
You will stop spending money on the next shiny new toy and put the money towards quality food.
You will stop coming up with excuses, realize that if you are fat it is your fault and do something about it.
So that leaves you with two choices:
1.) Say I can’t and stay fat and get fatter.
2.) Say I will and finally lose that weight for good.
Choose wisely grasshopper.
